Case Study 01 | Retail Conversion Study

This project served as a technical study in material application and character elevation. Using a mass-market 7ft animatronic as a base chassis, I applied studio-grade hair-mapping and painting techniques to see how far a retail holiday decoration could be pushed toward cinematic realism. While my focus remains on the handcrafted originals of the Legacy Archive, this study allowed for a deep dive into movement-based aesthetics.

Case Study: Technical Breakdown

  • Cranial Re-Engineering: Stripped the factory skull to the lower 1/3 to preserve the mechanical jaw-sync while creating a custom-sculpted facial structure for cinematic accuracy.

  • Ocular & Dental Upgrades: Re-fitted the original hardware with custom brown eye-sets and hand-sculpted teeth and lips to eliminate the "toy" aesthetic.

  • Anatomical Tailoring: Built a custom body over the internal pole-frame, allowing for a tailored, form-fitting fur suit that reflects proper Wookiee proportions.

  • Surface Artistry: Conducted a full-body black pigment application to the fur, including hand-punched facial hair and a character-defining facial scar.

  • Custom Fabrications: Fully scratch-built armor sets and weaponry designed to scale.

  • Environmental Base: Integrated a custom floor to the internal frame, utilizing spray-foam carving and scenic painting to create a realistic "rocky terrain" display.

  • Final Detailing: Anatomical paint-work on extremities, finished with a high-gloss epoxy coating on the claws for a biological sheen.
